Pass the playlist around
Everyone brings a different song to the room. A track from a road trip, something found last week, an old favourite that still earns an enthusiastic introduction. Sharing music is a way of sharing a little of ourselves.
Give each person a turn to choose. Let the playlist wander between moods and memories. A surprising transition often becomes the part everyone remembers.
Leave room for conversation
Music can set a scene without taking it over. During a meal or an evening with friends, find a listening level that leaves space for the voices around you.
There is no need to curate every minute. A few thoughtful songs can establish the mood, then the gathering will find a rhythm of its own.
Keep the songs, keep the memory
Save the tracks that became part of the evening. A shared playlist can be a small souvenir: familiar songs in a new order, attached to a new story.
Play it again another day. Sometimes the best way back to a moment is the song that was playing when it happened.
